Week #24 Check In

It's the end of Week 24!

How has your writing week gone? Here's your chance to tell everybody about it, whether you're a weekly or monthly (or anything in between) W1S1 participant.

If you've managed to write a story and submit a story, here's your chance to tell the world. If you've had something W1S1-related accepted, tell us so we can add you to the Write1Sub1 Hall of Fame. But if life has interfered with your writing and every reply has been a rejection, let us know that too so we can commiserate. We're all in this together.

Please report ONLY accepted/published stories that you wrote as part of your participation in W1S1 (2011-2015).

(Please note that reports will not immediately appear, as they must be verified/processed by the moderator.)

While W1S1 continues to encourage all avenues for publication, we want to especially highlight those stories and markets that help to put tea in a writer's cup.

Even if you have no acceptance or publication news to report, please update us on your week's progress in the comments. Successes and failures, triumphs and disasters, brilliant ideas and insane dreams: we want to read all about them.

  1. Dug out a story I'd left in the middle and sketched an outline for it then added 1000+ words to it. No sub's. 1 rejection! They'll start rolling in now! :)

    1. Let's hope it's the acceptances that start rolling in!

  2. This week was mostly prepping to self-pub a few things. (A few reprints, a couple of new stories.) One rejection. And wrote about 2.5k on a side project.

    1. Sounds like a pretty constructive week. Good luck with the self-pubs!

  3. I survived the week! My second book came out. I drowned in social media posts and emails for a few days, but I'm starting to emerge from the flood.

W: I was feeling antsy that I hadn't written anything new for a while, so it felt really good to write a new Chicken Soup story. I hadn't had the chance to do one this year! I hope I can do a couple more this month, too.

S: Submitted the Chicken Soup story. That will be my W1S1.

Acceptance: I had a poem accepted to Grievous Angel.

I hope you all are hanging in there. Write on!

  4. This week I've written a little and submitted a lot. Well done to those who have written more and congratulations to Beth on her second book. Can you tell me if you ever get acknowledgements of receipt of rejections from Chicken Soup? I have submitted a couple of pieces and heard nothing from them.

    1. Not sure about Chicken Soup - anyone else know? Best of luck with all those subs.

    2. Hi L! Since Chicken Soup can get as many as 5,000 submissions for an anthology, they only send out acceptances. Once I see a book with a cover and a set release date on someplace like Amazon, I figure that the story I sent them was rejected.

  5. Oh, and my check-in: Wrote 1 short piece which I'm editing prior to subbing. And one acceptance: a pro sale to Vitality magazine. Yay.

  6. Wrote and subbed two flash stories. Waiting to hear back on a story - my May W1S1 - for an anthology. Fingers crossed!
