Week #7 Check-in

The end of Week 7 is here at last!

How's it been for you? Have the words soared like The Flying Machine, or has The Dragon gotten in the way? Here's your chance to tell everybody about it, whether you're a weekly or monthly (or anything in between) W1S1 participant.

If you've managed to write a story and submit a story, shout it from the rooftops. Yahoo! If you've had something W1S1-related accepted, tell us so we can add you to the Write1Sub1 Hall of Fame. But if stuff has interfered with your writing and every reply has been a rejection, let us know that too so we can commiserate. We're all in this together.

Please report ONLY accepted/published stories that you wrote as part of your participation in W1S1 (2011-2015).

(Please note that reports will not immediately appear, as they must be verified/processed by the moderator.)

While W1S1 continues to encourage all avenues for publication, we want to especially highlight those stories and markets that help to put protein-rich snacks in a writer's fridge.

Even if you have no acceptance or publication news to report, please update us on your week's progress in the comments. Successes and failures, triumphs and disasters, brilliant ideas and insane dreams: we want to read all about them.

  1. Hi folks! Happy On-Sale-Candy Day!

W: Wrapped up a round of major edits on my novella and sent it off to critique readers. Started edits on the flash fics I've written over the past few weeks.

S: Started to send out new batches of poems, though I need to prowl for more markets. I intend to send out some of my new flash fics soon.

    2. "On-Sale-Candy Day" should totally be the sub-title for Presidents' Day.

Good luck with the new poems, Beth!

  2. Mmm. Candy. :)

I got the Southern Gothic novel up to 11k. Aiming for around 30k on this first part so that's about 1/3 of the way there.

One rejection (MedusPod) on a submission I had totally forgotten about.
    No new subs/acceptances/publications this week.

    1. Way to get prepped for next week, Tyrean!

  5. I wrote one flash, and outlined a longer short story. My goal for next week is to get the first draft of the longer story knocked out.

Received one nicely worded rejection, and sent one submission out the door.

    Keep writing, everyone!

    1. Nice work with the goals. I've found I work better with specifics in mind than more general goals. :)

  7. Would have posted earlier, but I just stumbled in the door after Radcon. But before I went I wrote, submitted, and got rejected by Silver Blade.

    1. I always grin over your titles, but Sugar-Coated Hairpin Curve" is especially nice.

  9. Two rejections this week, one from Tor.com and one from Allegory. Got my out-of-my-genre secret project up to 11.5 k and I am aiming for 20k by the end of the month - a rough first draft hopefully. Other than that nothing new. A slow week...

    1. I have a few secret projects too. Those are sometimes more fun than the official ones. :)

  10. Wrote and subbed my second story for February. I'm doing the Monthly version of W1S1 so it felt good to do a little extra this month.

  11. I was traveling in England this week for a research trip. Got a lot of nonfiction work done and a productive meeting with one of my editors to talk over a potential new nonfiction book project, so no short story written this week. I did sub two, and got two rejections. Also Perihelion published my story The Garbage Miners, set in the same world as my Toxic World series of post-apocalyptic books.
