Meet The W1S1 Anthology Authors & Cover

This year, we decided to embark on new adventure here at Write1Sub1. We wanted to put together a showcase of some of the stories that have been published by W1S1 participants to show how the W1S1 method can (and does) work. We called for submissions, and after a few hiccups, we put together a list of what we believe are some of the best stories W1S1ers created during its first few years.

So with the holiday spirit in mind, and without further ado, we present to you the authors of the first Write1Sub1 anthology, Drunk on Writing:

Minutemen by Milo James Fowler
Jen-6 by Erin Cole
A Shard Grows in Brooklyn by Alex Shvartsman
The Chronicles of Zer by Simon Kewin
A Contract Between Thieves by Stephanie Lorée
Infested by Stephen Ramey
Shafts to Hell by Jeff Chapman
Evie by Madeline Mora-Summonte
The Ungreat Escape by Siobhan Gallagher
Dying Again by Devin Miller
Scraps by Michael Haynes
Taking the Winds by Folly Blaine
Toil & Trouble by Michelle King
The Oni by Heather Whittington
Taking Care of Ma by Lee Hallison
Insomnia by Anna Carpenter
Captain Clone by Deborah Walker
Pretending by Anna Andrews
Broken by Rhonda Parrish
The Dryad, on Marrying the Oak by Alicia Cole
Counting Stones by Alicia Cole
An Herbalist's Loves by Alicia Cole

Final cover and story order are still in process. We hope you enjoy what we've put together so far. Happy Holidays to all!

  1. Looks great! There are a lot of stories there that I can't wait to read. Happy holidays!

  2. Very nice -- some of my all-time favorite W1S1 stories! Thank you, Mr. Bradbury, for inspiring us: “You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you.”

  3. It's gonna be a fantastic read...

  4. How exciting! Can't wait to read it! :)

  5. That's great! And I recognized two names on your list of authors. Congrats to all of them! Wishing you a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2014! :-)

  6. Looking forward to reading! Glad to have my poetry included. Thank you! :)

  7. HOORAY! I can't wait for this. Some of my favorite writers all in ONE place. :) Such an awesome accomplishment.

    1. And I love the preliminary cover. The writing process does feel like that sometimes. LOL!

  8. Wow. The emotions going through me right now. This year my writing totally fell apart. Receiving an acceptance for this anthology and coming back to this website for the first time in months has reminded me of how much a part of my life writing is and always will be, thanks to Write 1 Sub 1. Milo, reading that quote on this day hit me where it counts. I want to thank you all for what you do.

"So no more running. I aim to misbehave." -Captain Malcolm Reynolds, Serenity

    1. Hoorah, you're back! Here's to a great and productive 2014

  9. I kept a record this year of completed pieces, so for the first time I know. It's 72 stories and poems and bits and bobs. And I had 69 acceptances, including being translated into Romanian and being published in Argentina and India for the first time.

I had nine pro sales, got my stories into an art gallery, got a story into The Year's Best SF 2012. I've improved my blog. I've walked around the house a lot muttering, "what is story? Exactly. What isstory?

    So, a good year.
