Week #47 Check-in

The end of Week 47 is here!

How's it been for you? Have the words flowed like Dandelion Wine, or has Something Wicked gotten in the way?

Here's your chance to tell everybody about it, whether you're a weekly or monthly(or anything in between) W1S1 participant.

If you've managed to write a story and submit a story, shout it from the rooftops. Yahoo! If you've had something accepted from this year, tell us so we can add you to the Write1Sub1 Hall of Fame. But if stuff has interfered with your writing and every reply has been a rejection, let us know that too so we can commiserate. We're all in this together.

Also, remember to note your paid publications ($) for our Published Work$ page -- stories published from either W1S1 2011 or 2012, and don't forget to post the link! While W1S1 continues to encourage all avenues for publication, we want to especially highlight those stories and markets that help to put coffee in a writer's favorite mug.

Successes and failures, triumphs and disasters, brilliant ideas and insane dreams: we want to read all about them!

  1. I hope folks here in the states had a nice Thanksgiving. As for writing...

    W1: "Pregnant Winter" (flash)
S1: flash to Pillhead Chapel, flash to Vestal Review, short story to Literary Orphans, flash to Pure Slush.

Accept: "Bones of the Founders" by Literary Orphans, "A Snifter of Absinthe" by Zodiac Review, "Steps to Building a Bigger Butt" by Pure Slush.

    Published: Soon, my precious.

    1. Well done, Flash Master -- I look forward to reading them.

    2. That's impressive!

  2. Hi all, did a tiny bit of writing, but it got done, so that is nice.

Wrote and Submitted: History of Island Ball

Accepted and Published: Grand Fiend:The Seasoning of Life

    1. Yeah. I always forget that part, the link part

  3. Actually managed to write a flash-

    W1: "Hide-n-Seek"
    S1: None
    Accepted: None
    Rejected: 1
Published: ($) Tip of the Sliver

Best of luck in the last few weeks everyone!

    1. Always enjoy reading your work; left you a comment @ Eschatology.

  4. Found out this week that my stories from Weeks#49&50 last year have been accepted by Musa Publishing as a future noir novella: Immaterial Evidence. At 22K, it'll be my longest publication to date, and I'm stoked.

    Write on, everybody!

    1. Great news, Milo. You do us proud.

  5. Congratulations everyone. Good week for me. My $ story got published, 'Drink Deep and Long the Circean Poison' and got an acceptance from 'Interstellar Fiction'

Apart from that I've been doing a lot of craft work, this month. Thinking about the horror short story. I feel like I might have had a writer's epithany! But I've thought that before.

  6. Well done, everyone!

Not a bad week. Wrote a new SF short and subbed a dark fantasy to Daily Science Fiction. No acceptances, but I did get a 'close but not quite' from Clarkesworld. Funny how that kind of rejection can be both more joyful and more painful at the same time, and for the same reason :-)

1 new $ pub, Meredith Said at Roar and Thunder.

    1. I hear ya on the "close but not quite" letters. Delightful, yet devastating.

  7. A good week, especially considering the holiday festivities and travel.

Wrote 2000 words on a new short, but couldn't finish it in time, so I wrote a small flash, completely spontaneously. Pretty cool!

Submitted one from last week to Fantastic Frontiers.

    No acceptances/rejections.

  8. Wrote two new chapters, edited a bit more of The Steampunk Novel. Then spilled coffee on my laptop. >_< (Nothing lost, just have to take the keyboard apart and clean it. Ugh.)

    Submissions/Rejections/Acceptances/Published: NONE! (Again. Must fix.)

  9. I spent most of the week visiting family in California, but I still managed to get writing done every day--at the very least, I kept up with my Poem a Day. I also completed big picture story revisions for an editor.

Published: "Toilet Gnomes at War" (W1S1 from last year, $) at Stupefying Stories

  10. It’s almost the end of a month slowed by company and the bloody holiday, so here goes….

“Coral in Belize Is Dying” was pubbed by BwS Nov. 12, at

“Clenched Teeth” was published Nov. 3, 2012, by The Story Shack, at

Pulp Modern is supposed to pub “Gaslighting” (a Halloween story, for God’s sake!) this fall. Big Pulp has accepted two stories that should start appearing.

One rejection came in for a southern Gothic piece and a query went out to a paying market for a spec fic/crime story.
