How's it been for you? Have the words flowed like Dandelion Wine, or has Something Wicked gotten in the way?
Here's your chance to tell everybody about it, whether you're a weekly or monthly (or anything in between) W1S1 participant.
If you've managed to write a story and submit a story, shout it from the rooftops. Yahoo! If you've had something accepted from this year, tell us so we can add you to the Write1Sub1 Hall of Fame. But if stuff has interfered with your writing and every reply has been a rejection, let us know that too so we can commiserate. We're all in this together.
Also, remember to note your paid publications ($) for our Published Work$ page -- stories published from either W1S1 2011 or 2012, and don't forget to post the link! While W1S1 continues to encourage all avenues for publication, we want to especially highlight those stories and markets that help to put coffee in a writer's favorite mug.Successes and failures, triumphs and disasters, brilliant ideas and insane dreams: we want to read all about them!
I actually wrote a new story this week. Plus made revisions to a much older one (written 10 years ago).
ReplyDeleteWritten: The Ant Thief
Subbed: A Toothy Adventure (UFO)
Rejected: A Toothy Adventure
Accepted/Published: NONE
Should also point out that I have sold two more stories than my current tally over there shows. (Both reported last week, though they actually sold a few weeks before that.)
DeleteThanks.
Way to go, AG!
ReplyDeleteI revised another 10K in my WiP and hope to have this draft finished by the end of the month. We shall see...
In other news, I had a non-W1S1 story published @ Bent Masses that survived 2 years of rejections.
Write on, everybody!
Yay Milo! The tales of stories that find homes after much rejection really inspire me!
DeleteI agree. It shows there's hope for all our stories.
DeleteWrote two new shorts and two flash this week, subbed one of the flashes to Camroc Press Review. Had the flash rejected (that's a speedy market!). No acceptances or pubs.
ReplyDeleteCamroc's usually a day or two. At least there's no waiting and wondering!
DeleteI haven't checked in in a while, mostly because I have fallen off the writing/subbing wagon, but this post is me picking myself up from the side of the road and running frantically after the wagon yelling "Wait for me!"
ReplyDeletePublished: the podcast version of "Navel Gazing" at Every Day Fiction.
Accepted: "Why Does the Manatee Sing?" for the Daughters of Icarus anthology.
Written: Cupcake
Subs/Rejections: none.
Congrats! I updated your number for June.
DeleteI think I missed reporting in last week.
ReplyDeleteI've written two new stories since then, both short ones, just over flash length. I subbed the first of those ("Learning Curve") earlier this week, so I've met my monthly W1/S1 goal.
Two acceptances to report, both nice ones: "Scraps" to Daily Science Fiction ($) and "ReFormed" to Buzzy Mag ($).
"Scraps" is a 2012 piece.
"ReFormed" had its first draft in 2011 but I made the final pre-submission changes in 2012 and submitted it for the first time in 2012. I have no idea how that counts for HOF purposes.
W1/S1er Brenda Stokes Barron critted both of these and Alex Shvartsman critted "Scraps." Thanks to both of them!
Congrats on those! Be sure to post the links when they go up so they can be added to the Published Works page.
DeleteRewrote 1 from scratch, drafted two, submitted two. A good week :)
ReplyDeleteA very good one!
DeleteGood week!
ReplyDeleteSubmitted: two new stories to Chicken Soup for the Soul
Accepted: a pro-rate sale to Buzzy Mag! ($)
Published: My 100-word story "Don't Look" at Grand Science Fiction.
congratulations on getting into Buzzy!!! Way to go!!!
DeleteMadly reworking a story that was too short for the market I wanted to send it too - made it!
ReplyDeleteSo I am again at
W1 & S1
No accepts
One rejection
No progress on novel
Congratulations everyone on sticking to it!!
Congrats to you for doing the same!
DeleteThis was a busy week, even if the stats won't show it. I finished the polish of our big honking fantasy book (167,000 words) and sent it off yesterday. Now, it's on to put together the Triangulation anthology this week.
ReplyDeleteW1: "F#@k" (flash); "Sides" (flash)
S1: Flash to Bent Masses
Accept: None
Published: "Fuschia" is podcast at Every Day Fiction by our own Folly Blaine. Thanks, Folly!
I had a tough week where I struggled with focus and productivity. Still, I managed to finish up a short story that has been kicking my butt for about a month now and one of my poems was published in the recent issue of Illumen (sadly I wrote it a while ago so it doesn't count as a W1S1 publication) so I'm going to chalk this week up in the 'win' category.
ReplyDelete~ Rhonda Parrish
That definitely sounds like a winning week to me, Rhonda.
DeleteToughest week yet. Went to NYC for vacation, so no real quality writing done for week 23, then had to spend this week catching up for work, so nothing really to show from week 24. Have a few flash stories in mind for Daily Science Fiction and Flash Fiction Online that I'm going to spend the afternoon working on to make up for it, and maybe I'll have some time for something longer this week.
ReplyDeleteGot a twitter fiction accepted at Seedpod Publishing.
Two rejections.
Keep on it guys!
Congrats!
DeleteA few Rs this week. Made a start on what i think will be a short story.
ReplyDeleteAlso had my April 2012 story go live on Wily Writers
Linkage: http://www.wilywriters.com/blog/fire-season-by-samuel-mae/
That's a $ sale (pro-rates, too).
Congrats on all the pro-paying sales i see this week, peeps!
Congrats, and added to the Published Works page!
DeleteI am getting worse and worse updating, but I am still working at it, which is nice. I wrote and sibmitted to Everyd Day Fiction "Looking at Eakins"
ReplyDeleteI got a couple of rejections and one acceptance, Dispeptic Moments was accepted and published by Linguistic Erosion
have a good week all
Congrats on the acceptance!
DeleteThe novel's been going well so I haven't done too much with short stories. I'm writing one now, that I hope to revise and submit later this month. (I know, there isn't that much more of "later this month").
ReplyDeleteI made 2nd round at Shimmer, but the story didn't make it any farther.
I was accepted into Viable Paradise, so I've kidn of been reacting to that the past few days...
Oh, that's wonderful! I attended VP and it was a great time. And there's at least one other W1S1 person attending!
DeleteCongratulations! Stiff competition for VP--good job!
DeleteBack at the start of the year school kept me busy and the first month of Summer, I was busy, busy. However, I got the time to get back to my writing. I wrote a poem and submitted it at Three Line Poetry, and it was accepted!!! My first published work!!! I am so excited!!! I will be sure to give you all a link to go check it out, once the next issue comes out. :) I also plan on submitting a "rogue biography" in a contest at Scribophile within the next two days. Wish me luck!
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Rhiannon! You'll never forget the first! :D
DeleteRhiannon, if you have a blog or a page you'd like to use I can link your name to in in the Hall of Fame. It has to be a link, so I had to just link it back to this blog for now. Let us know what page you'd like to link it to.
DeleteAnd good luck on the new sub!
