Weekly/Monthly Check-In #38

The end of Week 38 is here!

How's it been for you? Have the words flowed like Dandelion Wine, or has Something Wicked gotten in the way? Here's your chance to tell everybody about it, whether you're a weekly or monthly (or anything in between) W1S1 participant.

If you've managed to write a story and submit a story, shout it from the rooftops. Yahoo! If you've had something accepted or published, tell us so we can add you and the market to the Write1Sub1 Halls of Fame. But if stuff has interfered with your writing and every reply has been a rejection, let us know that too so we can commiserate. We're all in this together.

Successes and failures, triumphs and disasters, brilliant ideas and insane dreams: we want to read all about them!

  2. It's been quiet here, too. No acceptances. No progress on short stories this week; I put in 12k on the new steampunk novel.

    Publications:
    - "One More Name" was posted at Fiction365

    - "A Spectacular Display" is in Fantastique Unfettered issue #3, now on Barnes & Noble

  4. My haiku was accepted and published over at Haiku Journal. That makes 9 Successes for the Hall of Fame. :)

Other than that, still struggling with my novel revision, working on entries for the Writers' Platform-Building Campaign, writing and revising and subbing/re-subbing various pieces. Ah, the life of a writer! :)

  5. I'm back in the saddle. Wrote and subbed my 2 for the month. I've made finalist on WotF so I'm anxiously awaiting final results. Send me good vibes, please!

  9. As for me, this week's W1S1 was a Coyote Cal & Big Yap origin tale: "Harbinger of Arroyo Seco", off to Big Pulp.

Accepted: "A Monster Stirring" by 10Flash Quarterly for their October issue.

We're 3/4 of the way through Write1Sub1 2011, everybody. Onward and upward!

  10. Subbed: "By Way of the Golden Shell" - It's a great story. Rejected 3x but I know someone's going to want it.

Wrote: "Escaping Darkness" - Finished last night, just in time to count for this week :)

  11. I've had a few weeks of stuff in spades, and am finally getting out of a slump!

I wrote 4 twitter fictions, subbed all 4, and had 2 accepted by Trapeze, for publication in December and January. Also rewrote and subbed a W1S1 flash from earlier in the year.

And I had a piece accepted by 5 x 5 Fiction, which is published in Issue Three just out today.

  12. Congratulations on 10flash, Milo. I didn't make it.

  13. Ditto on that, Milo. 10 Flash is a great market. Congrats on the other accepts here as well, and the WOTF finalist. Enjoy that buzz.

My own week was very good.

W1: "You Say Tu Dou, I Say Ma Ling Shu" (flash); "The Prodigy" (flash); "Infested" (flash); "One Act" (flash), "Cat" (micro)

S1: Flash to Smokelong Quarterly; micro to Leodegraunce; flash to NYC Flash Competition.

Accepted: "Red Light" to Pure Slush; "Paint the Black" to Fiction365; "God Drives" to State of Imagination; "Earth Vector" to Garbled Transmissions.

Published: "Bloom Science" at Coffin Mouth

  14. Celesta: We've got to believe in our work, even when it seems like no editors do. Eventually, your story will find a good home -- I guarantee it.

AS: 3 acceptances; well done! Halls of Fame updated.

Deborah: Dang it; I was hoping we'd share the TOC.

Steve: Holy cow, Flash Master -- 4 acceptances? That's got to be some kind of record around here. Halls of Fame updated!

Hi! Just wanted to know if it was too late to join the crusade, or should I wait until the start of the new year? Also, how do I go about joining the community? Where do I sign up?

    Thanks!

  18. Congratulations to everyone who did well!

I just crapped out this month. I did write one and sub it at the beginning of the month, but apart from that it's been nothing but pointless dicking about.

I've got a story stuck in my head, I'm going to try and get it out before the end of the month.

  19. You can do it! We look forward to reading it.
