Weekly/Monthly Check-In #27

The end of Week 27 is upon us! Already!

How's it been for you? Have the words sparkled like starlight or have you found yourself in a black hole? Here's your chance to tell everybody about it, whether you're a weekly or monthly (or anything in between) W1S1 participant.

If you've managed to write a story and submit a story, shout it from the rooftops. w00t! If you've had something accepted/published, tell us so we can add you and the market to the Write1Sub1 Hall Of Fame. But if stuff has gotten in the way of the writing and all your replies have been rejections, let us know that too so we can commiserate! We're all in this together.

Successes and failures, triumphs and disasters, brilliant ideas and insane dreams: we want to read all about them!

  1. Pretty good week here. Especially pleased about the Zahir publication.

Written : Eighteen Million Butterflies (Short Story)

Submitted : Bad Hair Day and Cerb 'R' Us (Twitter)

Accepted : Cerb 'R' Us (Twitter) by Trapeze

Published : Meteorology For Beginners by Zahir and (Non-W1S1) Up in Smoke (Twitter) by 7x20

  2. I went on a bender this week and subbed 3 new stories to Asimov's (swing for the stars, baby, besides they encouraged me to send more), Shock Totem contest (Giant Monsters AAARGH!!!), and a story for Machine of Death I call Martian Invasion. I also edited and resubbed a few older stories.

In other news, I just reached 50 rejections. The 50th was encouraging, though, so I can't complain.

No acceptances yet, a couple of maybes.

  3. 'Layers of change' 200 words + images written/subbed/accepted to Language Place Carnival #8 - to be published after 20/07, and ditto 'Romance', 12 lines,to be printed later in the year.
~2000 words for future novel written.
Nothing next week - I'm going to North Carolina ;)

  4. This week's W1S1: "Dahlia and the Ronin" to OSC's Intergalactic Medicine Show (that's me dreaming BIG, by the way).

Still waiting to hear back from Shimmer and Criminal Element on rewrites, but I signed my Daily Science Fiction contract, so that's progress.

    Write on, everybody!

  5. Had my 11th W1S1 acceptance this week, a second micro-short to Trapeze.

I'm doing the monthly version instead of the weekly for the next couple of months. I wrote two 1000-word stories this week, so I've done double than I aimed for this month already. (That acdtually makes 4 stories in two weeks, right after I decided to shift down into the monthly--go figure.) I also made two submissions.

    Great going, everyone!

  6. I revised a flash this week, posted it for crit, and am working on the revision. :) After that, it's going OUT.

  7. Bizzzy this week on the antho, so:

W1: "Predatory Nature" (flash); "Blossoms" (flash).

S1: 3 flashes to Every Day Fiction.

    Accept: None

    Published: None

  8. Matt,

Very best of luck. You gotta reach for the stars!

  9. Sandra,

Many congrats on those. And say hi to North Carolina!

  10. Milo,

Yeah, dream big baby! Best of luck with that. Intriguing title!

  11. Great stuff, Shelley, and congrats on the acceptance.

  12. I'm slipping into Write 1 / sub 1 monthly... My production has dropped through the floor this summer (the subfloor I removed from our bathroom).

I did manage my 1 sub last month. The only sub I made for the month. Yikes.

You all make me feel so... inadequate. ;)

  13. dmbonanno,

The very best of luck with that.

  14. Steve,

Best of luck with all those flashes - and with the antho, of course.

  15. Aaron,

Yes, but we're not all rebuilding our houses from the ground up. Best of luck with the monthly scheme.

  16. It's been a good, productive week!

My third W1S1 acceptance: "La Rosa Still in Bloom" to Crossed Genres, to be published in August's Sidekicks & Minions issue.

Submitted: one story to Chicken Soup for the Soul, and one flash

Churned through a few chapters of novel revisions, too.

  17. Nice work everyone. I'm pretty sure I wrote and subbed one, but I can't quite recall. Oh, yes, sent something to Lightspeed, rejected already.

But a hot off the press acceptance for the Future Lovecraft Anthology for a poem. I'm so pleased me=adore Lovecraft.

  18. Weekly stats are as follows:

    Wrote: Good-bye

Subbed: Pixie Dust (GigaNotaSaurus); Summer Day 2, Bugs, Christening (Microcosms); Good-bye (Camera Obscura); Mother (Pedestal Magazine)

    Rejections: Not AA (Nanoism)

    No acceptances. Maybe this week.

  19. W1: 2,200 word sci-fi

S1: Above story to Clarkesworld (That's me aiming big :) Though, it has managed to make it to "Under Review" which is only the second time I've ever gotten past "Received" there -- small victories and all that.)

    Acceptances: Nout.

Congrats to all on the writing, subs and, of course, the acceptances!

  20. Wrote 4 microfictions. No subs. Had 1 twitter fiction accepted by trapeze, for publication in October.

  21. For the first time in ages I have actually submitted 2 pieces of prose and a poem. Yay! Shows the meds must be helping my brain get back it's mojo! :O)

  22. Beth,

Great stuff on the Crossed Genres acceptance - I'll update the Halls of Fame.

  23. Deborah,

    Great stuff. Me=adore Lovecraft too!

  24. A. G. Carpenter,

Sounds like a productive week. Best of luck with those subs.

  25. shanemgavin,

Best of luck with the Clarkesworld sub.

  26. A. S. Andrews,

Congrats on the acceptance - I'll update the Halls.

  27. Madeleine,

Yay! Best of luck with those.

  28. Due to vacation, I definitely had an off-week. I did some writing, but not enough to get a piece finished by the end of the week. So now I'm a week behind, but will catch back up this week or next.

-- Nothing written (or at least nothing completed), submitted, accepted, nor (thankfully) rejected.

Now to get back into it for this week!

  29. Been busy with the Camp NaNo novel...

One non-W1S1 story is up at Fiction 365 (the July 9th story of the day.)

One W1S1 story accepted by Fiction at Work - that will be out in a couple of weeks. This makes 6 for me for the Hall of Fame! :)

    Keep going everyone!

  30. Chris,

Thanks for checking in - and best of luck with this week!

  31. Madeline,

Yay, great news. I'll update the Halls of Fame.

  32. I had a banner week with two Hall of Fame-worthy entries. Sold "Spidersong" to Daily Science Fiction and "Prometheus Cried" to Nanoism. "Prometheus Cried" was posted at Nanoism that same day.

Wrote a story for the Shock Totem contest and submitted it to them.
