Weekly/Monthly Check-In #23

The end of Week 23 is upon us!

How's it been for you? Have the words soared like The Flying Machine, or has The Dragon gotten in the way? Here's your chance to tell everybody about it, whether you're a weekly or monthly (or anything in between) W1S1 participant.

If you've managed to write a story and submit a story, shout it from the rooftops. Yahoo! If you've had something accepted/published, tell us so we can add you and the market to the Write1Sub1 Hall Of Fame. But if stuff has gotten in the way of the writing and all your replies have been rejections, let us know that too so we can commiserate! We're all in this together.

Successes and failures, triumphs and disasters, brilliant ideas and insane dreams: we want to read all about them!

  1. I've written one and subbed it, and have two stories in the draft stage so not bad overall.

I've got a story coming out this week, another one coming out some time this summer, and I'm still waiting to hear back on a few. Oh, and a rejection came rolling in this weekend. Sigh.

    Keep going, everyone! :)

  2. This week I

    W1: "Jehovah Joint" (flash)

S1: 2 micros to monekybicycle; twitter to Nanoism (can you hear the hollow sound of my head hitting brick?); short story to Bards & Sages.

Accepts: "Into the Woods" selected for Bartleby Snopes upcoming paper antho (this was a pre-W1S1 story)

    Published: "The Reservoir" in flashquake (p30);
    "Time and Tide" in Eschatology
    twitter story at trapeze

  3. Back into a bit of a rhythm this week : drafting a new story, polishing up and sending out a story from a previous week :

    Written :

Last Train to Morden (short story)
    A(mong Rel)atives (Twitter)

    Submitted :

    Slieau Whallian (fantasy, short story)
    A(mong Rel)atives (Twitter)

    Accepted :

    (Non-W1S1) Terahertz by Brain Harvest

    Published :

Last Days of Summer by Cuento

  4. Finally finished my WoTF entry. Win, Lose, or Draw the story is as good as I can make it.

Also, edited and sent out 2 more new pieces of fiction, one to Future Lovecraft and one to Beneath Ceaseless Skies. they'd been sitting around from prior weeks, so I polished them out and put them out the door.

  5. Madeline: Good work!

Steve: Thanks for the reading material, sir.

    Simon: Another successful week.

Matt: Nicely done; we wish them well.

  6. As for me, this week's W1S1: "Stones in the Sky" to New Myths.

    Accepted: 2 micro-tales to 5x5 Fiction.

Published: Microfiction @ Cuento and 5x5 Fiction.

Also: an editor from Tor contacted me about the Week18 story I submitted to their Criminal Element site -- more on that in the near future, I hope.

    Write on, everybody!

  7. This month has been surprisingly good so far. Got a story written and sent out, another story resubbed, and then an entry into an "Opening Sentence" contest, all done this week. Got at least a couple more story ideas in the wings, too.

It's such a beautiful day outside, I think I'll take my computer and sit outside in my lawn chair to write. :)

  8. 'Essence, an exquisite ache' submitted and accepted for Language>Place carnival #7 and nearly 8K words written for 'Bridie5' - now exceeding 107K but no mental space for owt else at the moment.

  9. Sparklecat: Good work; enjoy that fresh air.

Sandra: Nice; include the URL and I'll add it to the Hall of Fame.

  10. Wrote several Twit Fic this week (Summer Day, Changling, Survivor).

Subbed six Twit Fic (Summer Day, Changling, Survivor, Dumped, Not AA, Bugs)

Received a rejection for Pixie Dust.

Got an acceptance from Cuento for Changling (to be published July 16th).

  11. Great start to the week, frustrating finish. Rewrote an old non-w1s1 story over the first few days, so that's my w1, but the original story I had thought nearly finished by as early as Thursday appears to be dead in the water as I write this. So the breakdown looks like this:

    Magic Words (short story)

    Magic Words
    The Machine (non-w1s1)

No acceptances or rejections. It's been a couple of weeks since my last response, so I have a feeling I'm either going to get a flood of really bad news or really good news pretty soon.

  12. So, I missed last week and this week had to make up for it.

    W1: "The Rats"
    W2: "Reptilian, Centipede"

S1: "Voices from the Dark" to Arcane
S2: "These Are the Things Our Hands Have Made" to Ideomancer

  13. Hello all! Congratulations to all the W1S1 participants who hung in there and saw it through for another week!

It was a very busy week for me (in real-life stuff), so had little time to write and my W1S1 activity came right down to the wire, but...

    -- "Apologies" (Sci-Fi, 1730 words)

-- "Apologies" to Daily Science Fiction

    -- None

-- A 50-Word Story ("A Trashy Story") I submitted to a contest at was one of the three winners and has just been posted there.

So, it was by the skin of my teeth this week, but I managed to finish and sub a story to make it to 3-for-3 in my 3 weeks here.

  14. A.G.: Nice; Hall of Fame updated!

Joe: We're pulling for that flood of good news.

    Andrew: Well done, sir.

Chris: Congrats -- Hall of Fame updated!

  15. Hello, this week has been an off week for me. I got writing and editing done but I haven't had the chance to submit it yet. I've still got time to go and submit it but I haven't had the time to research new places to submit to. So, partial success here? Unless you want to count 140fiction. I guess that would be another successful week of W1S1.

I knew I couldn't keep up W2S2/p/week for long but it was fun. :D

Keep up the good work and keep kicking ass, everybody!

  16. Did you say, Tor, Milo? Whooo-hoo, fingers crossed.

Plodding along. Sent some poetry out, despite being virused. I've now managed to infect both our computers. This one's clean at the moment.

Could the list fairy please add my last week's acceptance to Enchanted Conversation to my score, please. I think I'm winning *checks*

oh, no, I see I've got to get 20 or so acceptances next week to beat Milo. I can do it.

  17. Keeping up just barely! Wrote 2 twitter fictions this morning, subbed 4 twitter fictions this evening.

  18. I haven't gotten anything written or subbed so far, but I knew it was going to be that way. I'm hoping to catch up like I did last month, but I'm not sure I'll be able to.

Had a nice surprise this week when my week 18 story won first place in the Shock Totem bi-monthly flash fiction contest. I was quite tickled! It's in the running for publication later in the year, and I got to pick a nifty prize. :)

  19. Monthly check-in here. No new submissions last week, but I did receive my first paid acceptance! Very exciting stuff.

  20. Eliomans: We all have off-weeks; keep on keepin' on.

Deborah: Consider it done; Hall of Fame updated!

    A.S.: Bueno!

Shelley: CONGRATS! I'd say that's Hall of Fame worthy.

    Stephanie: YAHOO! Nice work.

  21. Got a number of pages done so far on my story for June, "The Last Monk". Won't be looking to sub a story till I come back from vacation-- which is a week at the Oregon Writers Colony House with my writers' group. Am taking the current story, last month's story and some others to share for crit there. Happy June everyone!

  22. Didn't want to wait until next check in to post my eighth acceptance this year! Library of the Living Dead Press just accepted my story "All in the (Devil's) Family" for their "Hellology" anthology! Woohoo!

  23. Donna: Happy critting!

Sparklecat: NICE. Hall of Fame most definitely updated!
