Introducing Write1Sub1 Monthly

As you'll know, the plan with Write1Sub1 is to "do a Bradbury" and write/submit a freshly minted story each week. That's absolutely still the case, but we've also heard from a few people who love the idea of Write1Sub1 but don't want to take on the full weekly challenge.

With this in mind we've decided to set up two levels of Write1Sub1 : the original weekly scheme and a new monthly one. Hopefully Write1Sub1 Monthly will appeal to folks who want to join in the fun and be a part of the community without having to commit to the challenge of a story every seven days.

The two new graphics are here and also in the blog sidebar. Pick the right one for you and wear it with pride! We'll write a monthly "check-in" post for the monthly folks in addition to the weekly (Sunday) ones for the weeklies.

Meanwhile, here at Write1Sub1 we've started referring to the weekly scheme as "The Bradbury" and the monthly one as the "Light Ray". It seems to me these would make fine award names. So, complete the weekly scheme and at the end of 2011 you'll be awarded a coveted Bradbury to display on your blog, show to all your friends etc. Complete the monthly one and you'll receive the Light Ray award. Both are sure to be highly prestigious.

You might also be interested in the Write1Sub1 progress page I've added to my own blog. I got the idea from Dominic de Mattos, one of our participants. Basically I'm going to chart my weekly progress there for all the world to see. Feel free to copy!

  1. I found the progress meters on the site http://honorless.net/progressbar.htm easy to adapt to put into your blog ;)
unfortunately can't show a picture in a comment but trust me, they look good on my "feeder" blog where I spit my ideas onto & track pieces written, pieces submitted, pieces accepted ;)

  2. Light Ray! I love it. And it's perfect. Better to go overboard on Light Ray than to screw up Ray Ray and feel bad about it.

Thanks. So, which one are you going for? The monthly?

  5. Would it be possible to change horses a month or so in? I like the idea of weekly but will suffer badly if the only alternative to failure is nowt.

  6. Not a problem, Sandra; make Write1Sub1 work for you.

Great post, Simon. It won't be long now: 19 days and counting...

  7. Yeah for Light Ray! I've been on the fence about joining up, but I feel confident I can do the monthly version.

  8. Simon - the monthly is going to be right on track for me, but I'm looking for an added challenge, so I'm going to do monthly x2. I've always liked to do things my own way and I don't see that changing any time soon.

  10. You guys are awesome! Way to roll with us folks that are a bit intimidated by the weekly challenge.

thanks for the badge, and I'm going to get a Light Ray!

  11. I have the badge on my blog now and I actually started using the hashtag last Friday! Are you planning to publish some of these stories in an anthology? Will you let us know? Cheers

  12. I laughed out loud when I saw the "Light Ray" then had to try to explain what was funny. Ho hum!

Glad you liked the idea of a chart Simon :)

Changed my badge to The Bradbury ...

    I'm nearly all set!

  13. Charity,

    It's great you're on board!

    M L Poncelet,

We haven't discussed the possibility of an anthology but that is a great idea. Stories accepted for publication elsewhere might not be eligible of course. We'll certainly let you know!

    Dominic,

Glad you got the joke. I'd like to say it was mine but it was Stephen's really!

  14. I've been looking for a progress metre or a counter that I could use. I like the idea of the monthly write1sub1 and the Bradbury! :O)

  15. What a groovy idea.

I like dmbanonno's x2 thang. Weekly is probably pushing it a bit too much for me, but a single story a month will likely not be enough of a challenge. So two a month sounds like the way to go.

Though, that being said, can i really write two sellable stories a month? Hmm...

*wanders off to think it over*

  16. Hey Samuel.

You certainly can't if you don't write two stories ;-)

  17. Are you guys saying we need a "Fortnightly" level too? Not sure I can fit that on a graphic!

    ReplyDelete
  18. "Fortnightly" might be better than "Bi" -- more than one connotation there...

  19. Simon, maybe, maybe not. I like the idea of writing two stories within a month, but not so much the idea of writing one story every two weeks, if that makes any sense :D

I'm quite happy to take on the monthly challenge twice. And yeah, i'm not sure you could fit 'fortnightly' on the graphic (both of which look great, btw).

  20. Samuel,

Cool. I'm delighted you're using the challenge in your own way. Let me know though - if you want a new graphic I can just write real small ...
